The Rising Tide of Padel in the UK — And Why We’re Ready for It

Over the past few months, Padel Court Design has been delighted to see growing media interest in the padel movement here in the UK, particularly closer to home in Lancashire. In this region, we’ve been featured in the Lancashire Telegraph on multiple occasions — coverage that we’re truly proud of, but more than that, a sign that padel is on the cusp of major growth in this country.

In the last few months, the Lancashire Telegraph has done a couple of articles for us, reporting on the opening of a new padel & gym clubhouse near Blackburn, highlighting how local demand is pushing new facilities to the front burner. We are grateful to the lancashire Telegraph for this support.

This development that underscores how padel courts are no longer niche add-ons, but real investment opportunities in community infrastructure.

Why the UK Needs More Padel Courts — And Sooner Rather Than Later

Growing public interest

Padel’s appeal is strong: it blends elements of tennis and squash, offers fast-paced fun, and is accessible for players of many ages and abilities. Word-of-mouth, and now media coverage, is fueling curiosity and demand. As more people seek alternatives to traditional sports, padel is and will continue becoming a go-to option.

Facility gap

While interest is rising, the number of quality padel courts across the UK still lags behind demand. Many regions — even those with strong sporting cultures — lack enough courts to support local leagues, clubs, or casual play. That gap is a ripe opportunity for clubs, councils, or commercial developers to invest in padel infrastructure.

Community & economic benefits

New courts are more than sporting assets. They can be hubs of local activity: social spaces, coaching centres, junior development zones, and revenue generators (memberships, court hire, events). In retail or leisure parks, a padel court can increase footfall and enhance destination appeal.

Staying ahead of the curve

By planning padel facilities now — both indoor and outdoor — developers and local authorities can position themselves at the forefront of the trend. As the media continues to amplify success stories, later entrants will face stiffer competition and higher costs.

Let’s talk — and let’s build the courts people are going to be talking about next.
